Fraud Committee inquiry: how is digital fraud countered in the EU, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the USA?

On Monday 6 June 2022, the Lords Fraud Act 2006 and Digital Fraud Committee will take evidence from three panels of witnesses.
These evidence sessions will be streamed live on Parliament TV.
At 2.30pm the committee will hear from:
- Markko Künnapu, Legal Adviser, Estonian Ministry of Justice
- Andrea Garcia Rodríguez, Lead Digital Policy Analyst at European Policy Centre.
At 3.30pm the committee will hear from:
- Melissa Hodgman, Associate Director, Division of Enforcement, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), United States.
At 4.30pm the committee will hear from:
- Superintendent Gerard Pollock, Chair, ScamwiseNI Partnership, Police Service of Northern Ireland
- DCI Stevie Trim, Economic Crime and Financial Investigation Unit, Police Scotland.

- What impact does Estonia’s high levels of cyber-literacy have on the general population’s awareness of digital fraud?
- What are the central components of the EU’s counter-fraud response and how effective is this response?

- How effective are the powers the SEC has to bring civil action against those who break the law and how often are they used?
