Fraud Committee inquiry: National Crime Agency and police to face questions
Wednesday 15 June 2022
On Thursday 16 June 2022, the Lords Fraud Act 2006 and Digital Fraud Committee will take evidence on law enforcement agencies’ response to fraud.
This evidence session, which is open to the public, will be held in committee room 4A of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.
At 9.30am the committee will hear from:
- Superintendent Pete O’Doherty, Assistant Commissioner City of London Police and NPCC Coordinator for Cyber and Economic Crime
- Rob Jones, Director General NECC/Threat Leadership, National Crime Agency
- Mark Shelford, Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset.
At 10.45am the committee will hear from:
- Andy Cooke, Chief Inspector of the Constabulary for the London and National Regions.
Questions the committee is likely to cover in these sessions include:
- How effective is the current policing structure for tackling fraud led nationally by the City of London Police and locally by local police forces?
- What resources, in terms of funding and staff capacity and capability, are required to improve the national law enforcement response to fraud?
- How effectively do law enforcement agencies work with each other and with wider counter-fraud bodies including the Government and private sector?
- The committee has heard evidence on the difficulties victims encounter with Action Fraud, particularly reporting and following up on their cases. What challenges are faced when communicating with victims and what improvements are being made?
- How will the Government’s Draft Victims Bill affect how the police support victims?
