Land Use Committee hears from Henry Dimbleby on the Government’s food strategy

Friday 24 June 2022

On Monday 27 June the House of Lords Land Use Committee will take evidence from Henry Dimbleby, founder of Leon Restaurants and author of the National Food Strategy Independent Review. The session will focus on the Government’s recently published food strategy and opportunities to improve it.

The session will start from 3.30pm and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence will be:

3.30pm

  • Henry Dimbleby, author, National Food Strategy: Independent Review

Questions will include:

  • What assessment would you make of the Government’s food strategy? What do you think it gets right? Alternatively, are there any missed opportunities?
  • Can you tell us more about your recommendation for a rural land use framework? How could such a framework help integrate urban and rural land use issues and manage trade-offs for competing demands for land?
  • Should we be growing food to suit people’s diets or changing our diet to suit what we grow? Where do you see the balance between growing food to meet demand and promoting dietary changes?
  • In your opinion, does the Government’s food strategy go far enough to help address key shared objectives in relation to nature and climate change mitigation?
  • How can we improve the processes and mechanisms for the planning, management and decision making for future land use in England and which organization(s) would be best placed to lead on this?
