Lords to question Europe Minister James Cleverly on current UK/ EU relations

On Tuesday 21 June the House of Lords European Affairs Committee will hear evidence from the Rt Hon James Cleverly MP, Minister of state for Europe and North America on the current state of the UK-EU relationship.

This session with the Minister of State for Europe and North America will be the first time since Lord Frost appeared in front of the Committee in October 2021 that the Committee will have had the opportunity of directly questioning a Government minister about UK/EU relations.

It also follows the Government’s recent decision to introduce legislation making unilateral changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol, which is one of several subjects the Committee intends to question the Minister on.

The evidence session will take place on Tuesday 21 June and can be viewed live on parliamentlive.tv.

Possible topics include:

  • The current state of the UK-EU relationship
  • Ministerial responsibilities for Brexit policy matters following Lord Frost’s resignation in December 2021
  • The Government’s new legislation on the Protocol on Ireland / Northern Ireland, and the impact of this on other areas of the UK-EU relationship
  • UK-EU foreign policy cooperation, including in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine
