Lords to quiz Government Ministers on the environment and climate change

Monday 6 June 2022

The House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee will question Government Ministers this week as part of its scrutiny into the Government’s approach to behaviour change in meeting climate and environmental goals.

Wednesday 8 June – 10am to 11.15am

Rt Hon George Eustice MP, Secretary of State at Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs,

The session can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4a, Palace of Westminster.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • To what extent is behaviour change important for achieving environmental and climate goals, and in which areas are you prioritising behaviour change measures?
  • Are there plans to do more to engage the UK public on environment and climate and to harness public appetite for action, and if so, how?
  • How is public understanding, behaviour change, and support for policy being monitored?
  • What plans are there to improve coordination across Government departments on behaviour change for environmental and climate goals?

Thursday 9 June – 3.30pm to 4.45pm

Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, Minister of State (Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change) at Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy,

The session can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4a, Palace of Westminster.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  • How are the barriers of affordability and availability of products and services, and considerations of fairness, being addressed in the context of behaviour change for climate and environmental goals?
  • How do you respond to reflections we have heard in our evidence that the Government is not showing sufficient leadership on environment and climate change, and do you think this is influencing public willingness to act?
  • How do you plan to address the lack of clear and consistent policy signals for low-carbon innovation in critical markets, such as retrofit?
