Lords Committee hears from leading forestry bodies on the role of woodland and forestry in land use

Next week the House of Lords Land Use Committee will question the Chair of the Forestry Commission and senior officers at other leading forestry and woodland bodies about the part forestry and woodland have to play in land use in England.

The evidence session will take place on Monday 28 March from 3.30pm and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence will be;

3.30pm

  • Sir William Worsley, Chair, Forestry Commission;
  • Stephanie Rhodes, Delivery Director for the England Tree Planting Programme, Forestry Commission;
  • Andrew Allan, Lead Policy Advocate, Woodland Trust and;
  • Caroline Ayre, England National Manager, CONFOR - promoting forestry and wood.

Questions will include:

  • Are you confident that we have sufficient skills and resources to realise Government ambitions on tree planting, woodland and forestry?
  • Could an over-arching land use strategy help deliver better land use and outcomes for forestry and woodland?
  • What improvements can be made to the process for planning, management and decision making for future land use in England?
  • Do we have sufficient skills and resource to meet Government targets on tree planting, woodland, and Forestry?
  • How could Environmental Land Management Schemes encourage improved take up and management of woodland schemes?
