Lords Committee to explore how industry can help deliver a UK science and technology strategy

Monday 7 March 2022

On Tuesday 8 March, the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will hold its third evidence session into its inquiry: Delivering a UK science and technology strategy.

The Committee will hear from a mix of industry representatives, large and small companies and public and private investors to help it understand how industry can help deliver a UK science strategy.

The public evidence session will take place at 10.15am (GMT) on Tuesday 8 March 2022 and can be viewed live on Parliament TV.

10:15am

  • Dr Garry Pairaudeau, Chief Technology Officer, Exscientia, (and formerly Head of Hit Discovery at Astrazeneca);
  • Helen Kennett, Director, UK Government Relations, Rolls-Royce plc.

11:15am

  • Nigel Toon, CEO and co-founder, Graphcore;
  • Suranga Chandratillake, Partner, Balderton Capital;
  • Mike Biddle, Programme Director, Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

The Committee seeks to understand the kind of research and development conducted at private companies; what support, if any, they receive from government; and how private sector investment in research and development could be encouraged by government.

It also seeks the industry and investor perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of the UK science and technology system, what government could do better and the role government regulation can and should play in encouraging research and development investment.
