Lords Committee to quiz Minister from Department for Works and Pensions on amended Universal Credit and Jobseeker’s Allowance Regulations

Monday 7 March 2022

On Tuesday 8 March 2022, the House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee will question Baroness Stedman-Scott, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Work and Pensions) regarding the Universal Credit and Jobseeker’s Allowance (Work Search and Work Availability Requirements - limitations) (Amendment) Regulations 2022.

The Regulations were announced on 27 January, laid on 7 February and brought into force immediately on 8 February.

The session will start at 4pm and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Room 3, Palace of Westminster.

Questions will address:

  • the reasons why this is being treated as emergency legislation;
  • the significance of the "500,000 in jobs by 30 June" target and whether its delivery is feasible without extra Jobcentre staff.
  • The Committee will also enquire how the programme is to be delivered, whether local variations in available jobs will be taken into account or whether every Jobcentre will have to fill a quota.
