Lords to explore adult social care reforms with government officials

Friday 4 March 2022

The House of Lords Adult Social Care Committee will be holding its first public evidence session next week to discuss the Government’s current, and future, policies and proposals on adult social care.

The session will take place at 4:45 PM on Monday 7 March and can be followed live on Parliament TV

Giving evidence will be:

  • Michelle Dyson, Director General, Adult Social Care, Department of Health and Social Care
  • Tom Surrey, Director, Adult Social Care Policy, Department of Health and Social Care
  • Jason Yiannikkou, Director, Integration and Legislation, Department of Health and Social Care

Questions the committee is likely to ask include:

  • What work, if any, has the Government undertaken to understand why those receiving care, and providing care, feel ‘invisible’? And how do the Government’s proposed reforms plan to remedy this?
  • What assessment, if any, has been made of the number of people ageing without family to care for them, now and in the future? How do the Government’s reforms aim to tackle this issue?
  • What assessment, if any, has been made of the potential impact of the Government’s White Paper’s pledge of up to £25 million to identify and test a range of interventions to support unpaid carers? that this is sufficient to improve adult social care, both immediately and in the long-term?
  • How increased funding for housing will ensure that people stay independent for in their homes for as long as possible, and how this funding will be allocated?
  • What practical differences will the Government’s integration reforms make to improve the experience of those who receive adult social care and their unpaid carers?
