National Audit Office and Trades Union Congress to give evidence to Lords Committee on workforce sustainability

As part of its continuing inquiry examining ways to ensure we have a sustainable and resilient public services workforce the House of Lords Public Services Committee will hear from witnesses including the National Audit Office, the Trades Union Congress and senior academics in two evidence sessions taking place tomorrow – Wednesday 16 March.

The sessions will start at 3pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence will be;

3.00 pm

  • Kate Caulkin, Director of People and Operational Management Hub at National Audit Office; and
  • Sian Elliott, Senior Policy Officer at Trades Union Congress (TUC)

4.00pm

  • Dr Ana Canhoto, Reader in Marketing at Brunel Business School, Brunel University London;
  • Dr Aveek Bhattacharya, Chief Economist at Social Market Foundation and;
  • Professor Catherine Mangan, Professor of Public Management and Leadership, University of Birmingham.

Questions will include:

  • What steps would ensure that careers in public services are accessible and attractive to people with different backgrounds and abilities?
  • How can service users be more engaged in the design and delivery of public services?
  • How can digitisation support rather than endanger the delivery of public services?
  • What opportunities does the digital transformation present for developing new ways of working in the public services workforce?
