Public services workforce: government officials to give evidence to Lords committee
Tuesday 1 March 2022
Designing a public services workforce fit for the future will be explored by the House of Lords Public Services Committee tomorrow (Wednesday 2 March from 3.30 pm).
The committee, beginning its new inquiry, will hear from:
At 3.30 pm
- Mike Haslam, Deputy Director, Workforce Strategy, Department of Health and Social Care
- Alan Robson, Deputy Director, NHS Workforce, Department of Health and Social Care
- Mark Adam, Chief People Officer, Ministry of Justice
- Rob Smith, Head of Planning and Information, Health Education England
At 4.30 pm
- Siobhan Jones, Director of Local Government and Communities, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
- Caroline Pusey, Director for teaching workforce, Department for Education
Likely questions include:
- Will increasing workforce numbers be enough to solve the resource challenges facing public services, particularly in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic?
- Aside from training, which other avenues can maximise
- How does improving the skills of the public services workforce contribute to the ‘levelling up’ agenda?
- What skills do public services staff need in order to work in a more integrated way, and how can they be trained to do so?
- How do your departments support workforces to have the skills needed to involve people in the design and delivery of the public services that they use?
The session will be live on Parliament TV.
