Public transport inquiry to take evidence on ‘Mobility as a Service’ technology

Monday 7 March 2022

On Tuesday 8 March 2022, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will take evidence on how data can help improve transport and the development of ‘Mobility as a Service’ (MaaS) technology.

This session is part of the Committee’s inquiry on public transport in towns and cities.

At 10am the Committee will hear from:

  • Professor Susan Grant-Muller, Institute for Transport, University of Leeds
  • Sampo Hietanen, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, MaaS Global
  • Martin Howell, Transport Markets Director, Worldline UK.

This evidence session will be streamed on Parliament TV.

Questions the Committee is likely to ask include:

  1. How could the use of data deliver better integration and connectivity across public transport modes in urban areas outside London? How could data innovation help transport services meet consumer demand?
  2. How might trends towards greater connectivity and Mobility as a Service shift public transport travel patterns over the next 10 years?
  3. What are the potential opportunities provided by greater data sharing and transport apps? What are the barriers to providing more integration through data?
  4. What is the relationship between Mobility as a Service apps and public transport operators?
  5. What are the challenges in regulating transport apps? How should public policy be shaped to adapt to these innovations?
