Unpaid carers to give evidence on adult social care
Friday 25 March 2022
The House of Lords Adult Social Care Committee will next week hear evidence from unpaid carers on the current adult social care system, as well as discussing the changes they would like to see made to adult social care.
The session will take place Monday 28 March at 3:45pm and can be followed live on Parliament TV.
Giving evidence will be:
- Norman Phillips
- Helen Spalding
- Katy Styles
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
- What are the main challenges you encounter in your experience of unpaid care, and have these impacted not only on your own well-being but also on that of the person for whom you care?
- Is your role as an unpaid carer one that you feel you can exercise choice and control over?
- Do you feel that the current adult social care system answers the needs that are specific to your relationship with the person for whom you care?
- Do you believe that unpaid carers exist as a group that can come together to claim better rights?
- The Committee has heard that the adult social care system is difficult to navigate, both for people who draw on care and unpaid carers. How has this affected your experience of adult social care? What would make the care system less confusing and more accessible for you?
