Fraud Committee inquiry: Meta, TikTok, and Fluttr to give evidence

Friday 20 May 2022

At 3.45pm on Monday 23 May 2022, representatives from Meta, TikTok, and Fluttr will give evidence to the Lords Fraud Act 2006 and Digital Fraud Committee.

This evidence session will be streamed live on Parliament TV.

The committee will hear from:

  • Elizabeth Kanter, Director of Government Affairs Public Policy Manager, TikTok
  • Graham Pullan, CEO, Fluttr
  • Philip Milton, Public Policy Manager, Meta.

Questions the committee is likely to cover in this session include:

  • What preventative steps do you take to actively stop fraud before it happens on your platforms?
  • How effective are consumer education campaigns? For example, do users of dating  apps know about tools like reverse image search?
  • The committee has heard evidence which suggests that social media platforms are being used to recruit money mules. What are you doing to prevent this?
  • How can scammers be stopped from using WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and similar internet-based messaging to commit fraud?
  • What barriers do your companies face when sharing data on fraud risks and identifiers within your sector, across sectors and with law enforcement? Does GDPR help or hinder this process?
  • How will the fraud measures in the Online Safety Bill affect social media platforms?
  • Would the introduction of a ‘failure to prevent fraud’ duty incentivise action by companies whose platforms are used to facilitate scams?

The committee’s work can be followed on its website and via Twitter
