How can the Government make careers in public service more attractive?

This and other questions will be considered by the House of Lords Public Services Committee in an evidence session tomorrow, Wednesday 18 May, as it continues its inquiry into Designing a public services workforce fit for the future.

The session will start at 3pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence will be:

3.00pm

  • Richard Lee OBE, Member, Women's Business Council, and Chief People Officer, Willmott Dixon Holdings Limited;
  • James Darley, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Transform Society; and
  • Stephen Isherwood, Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Student Employers (ISE).

Questions will include

  • What creative solutions should we be thinking about to meet an increasing demand on public services without a corresponding increase in staff?
  • How should public services staff be supported to develop and use the skills they need for changing demands?
  • What changes to workforce structure or workforce planning would help to facilitate the broad and varied needs of service users and their families?
