Lords energy inquiry: Energy minister and Ofgem director to give evidence

At 3pm on Tuesday 24 May 2022 the Lords Economic Affairs Committee’s energy supply and investment inquiry will take evidence from Greg Hands MP, Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change.

He will be joined by Ofgem’s Networks Director Akshay Kaul.

This evidence session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.

Topics the committee is likely to cover in this session include:

  • Level of financial support needed by economically vulnerable people.
  • Impact on consumer bills of updating the price cap more frequently.
  • Difference additional investment in North Sea oil and gas could make to energy security and affordability.
  • How the UK can reduce its dependency on China for the processing of the raw materials needed for renewable technologies.
  • Bridging the £50 billion a year investment gap that will be needed to meet net zero targets.
  • The planning forms needed to enable rapid deployment of renewables in response to the current energy crisis.
  • How sufficient investment in grid infrastructure can be delivered to enable more renewables to be deployed.
