Lords Committee to hear from Hansard Society and former Government Treasury Solicitor on the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill

Tomorrow, Tuesday 22 November 2022, the cross-party House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee will hear from the Director of the Hansard Society and a former Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department.
The session will explore the relationship between Parliament and the Executive and scrutiny of secondary legislation.
The session will start at 2.15pm and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
- Dr Ruth Fox, Director, Hansard Society and;
- Sir Jonathan Jones KC, Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department (2014 – 2020).
Topics to be discussed will include:
- Whether the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill (the Bill) adds to concerns about the shift in power from Parliament to the Executive
- Concerns about the blanket nature of the sunset provision in the Bill
- Enhanced scrutiny procedures
- Amendment of the Bill
