Tuesday 1 November 2022
Tomorrow, Wednesday 2 November, the House of Lords Public Services Committee will question witnesses from the Care Quality Commission and NHS England in two evidence sessions.
The sessions will explore approaches to supporting emergency services, both in and out of hospitals; and sharing and promoting good practice and innovation in the provision of these services. The session will also consider levers of change to develop a safer and easier experience for service users.
The sessions will start at 3.00pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
3.00pm
- Victoria Vallance, Director of Secondary and Specialist Healthcare, Care Quality Commission;
- Sarah Scobie, Deputy Director of Research, Nuffield Trust; and
- Tim Gardner, Senior Policy Fellow, Health Foundation
4.00pm
- Professor Julian Redhead, National Clinical Director for Urgent and Emergency care, NHS England and;
- Dr Vin Diwakar, Medical Director for Transformation and Secondary Care, NHS England.
Questions will include:
- Where do you feel the problems in health systems lie which cause such pressure on emergency health services? How could such issues be addressed?
- How could urgent and emergency care services be better linked up with primary, social, and mental health services to ensure only patients with urgent need are accessing A&E or ambulance services?
- What is your view of risk management in health and social care? How could risk be better managed to improve outcomes for patients?
- There are numerous pilots in the NHS which may present valuable innovation in the delivery of emergency services. What are the challenges of rolling out these good practices more widely?
- What should be the vision for emergency services in this country?
