Lords Communications Committee to quiz ministers on the future of creative industries

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will question ministers from DCMS, the Department for Education, and BEIS as it concludes its inquiry into the future of the creative industries.

The Committee will quiz ministers on the Government’s record in supporting the UK’s creative industries on key issues including skills shortages, support for research and development, and delivering coherent policy.

The evidence session will start at 11:45am on Tuesday 22 November in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords. Giving evidence to the Committee will be:

  • Julia Lopez MP, Minister of State for Media, Data and Digital Infrastructure,Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
     
  • Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP, Minister of State for Skills,Apprenticeships and Higher Education, Department for Education
     
  • Kevin Hollinrake MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department ffor Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Issues the Committee will cover include:

  • How will government address concerns that its skills policy is failing the creative industries?
  • Is the government concerned that funding for the creative industries cluster programme not being renewed despite its apparent success?
  • What action is being taken to remove barriers to growth for SMEs, and incentivise R&D in the creative sector?  
  • Does the government have a sufficiently ambitious plan to support the sector in the context of economic headwinds and rising international competition?
