Lords to hear from Institute of Fiscal Studies and Resolution Foundation in aftermath of Autumn statement
Tuesday 29 November 2022
Following the Autumn Statement, the House of Lords Public Services Committee will hold an evidence session with experts to establish its impact and (that of the current economic situation) on the delivery and sustainability of public services. The session reflects the Committee’s ongoing interest in spending on public services.
The session will take place on Wednesday 30 November at 3.00pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
3.00pm
- Ben Zaranko, Senior Research Economist, Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS); and
- Torsten Bell, Chief Executive, The Resolution Foundation.
Questions will include:
- How will the current economic situation impact upon demand for public services?
- How will the two issues of demand and inflation impact the sustainability of public services – many of which are already under a lot of strain?
- How effective will increases in council tax be in supporting public services?
- How will the current economic climate affect the public sector workforce; particularly with regard to their purchasing power, and retention?
