Legal experts to give evidence on family migration
Monday 17 October 2022
The House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee will tomorrow speak to experts of immigration law as it continues its inquiry into family migration.
The session will take place on Tuesday 18 September at 10 AM and can be followed on Parliament TV.
Giving evidence will be:
- Mr Barry O’Leary, Partner, Wesley Gryk Solicitors LLP
- Ms Sarah Pinder, Barrister-at-Law, Goldsmith Chambers
- Ms Samina Iqbal, Barrister-at-Law, Goldsmith Chambers
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
- How do the definitions of “family” in the Immigration Rules and in family law compare with one another?
- How does the legal priority awarded to the best interests of the child differ between family law and immigration law?
- To what extent do immigration tribunals and family courts cooperate with one another?
- What can be done to resolve Home Office caseworkers being overworked with visa applications?
- Are there inconsistencies in Home Office decision-making on visa applications?
- Do you agree there is a problem with access to law for those needing to navigate the Immigration Rules and, if so, what consequences does it have?
