Lords Committee hears from senior academics in first evidence session of access to emergency services inquiry

Tomorrow, Wednesday 12 October, the House of Lords Public Services Committee in the first session of its new inquiry will hear from senior academics whose experience includes the governance and organisation of emergency services and the provision of emergency mental health services.
The session will start at 3.00pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:

- Professor Peter Murphy, Director of the Public Policy and Management Research Group, Centre for Economics, Policy and Public Management, Nottingham Business School;
- Professor Leo McCann, Professor of Management at the School for Business and Society, University of York; and
- Professor Inga Heyman, Associate Professor, Policing and Public Health and Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing, Edinburgh Napier University.
Questions will include:
- What are the key issues facing first responders to emergencies in the UK?
- What is the model used to deliver emergency health services in the UK? Is it the right model? How are other emergency services involved?
- What steps can be taken to ensure the right staff are responding to cases, and that they have the right skills to do so?
- How could change in governance and leadership support better outcomes for emergency service users?
