Lords Committee visits Northern Ireland to hear about the impact of the Protocol and the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill

The House of Lords Sub-Committee on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland will be in Newry and Belfast on 20 and 21 October, to hear evidence for its current inquiry into the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill. The Committee will meet politicians, businesses and civic society representatives to hear about the socio-economic and political impact of the Protocol, in the context of the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill currently before the House of Lords.
The Committee’s meetings in Newry will not be open to the public. However, verbatim transcripts will be taken for subsequent publication.
In Newry on Thursday 20 October, the Committee will meet:
- Conor Patterson, CEO, Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency;
- Julie Gibbons, President, Newry Chamber of Commerce
- Raymond Jackson, Chief Executive, Confederation of Community Groups
- Kate Clifford, Director, Rural Community Network
- Jacqueline Irwin, Chief Executive, Community Relations Council
- Liam Nagle, Chief Executive and Chairman, Norbrook Laboratories
- Dwyer Magee, Chief Financial Officer, Deli Lites
- Gareth Chambers, CEO, Around Noon
At Parliament Buildings, Stormont on Friday 21 October, the Committee will hear evidence from:
- 14:20-15:10: Lyle Pyper, Managing Director, EA Martin and Son Ltd; and Ashley Pigott, Managing Director, AJ Power
- 15:15-16:00: John Martin, Northern Ireland Policy Manager, Road Haulage Association; Paul Jackson, Director, McBurney Transport Group; and Mark Tait, Director, Target Transport
- 16:15-17:15 Chris Quinn, Director, Northern Ireland Youth Forum; Nicole Parkinson-Kelly, Vice-Chairperson, Northern Ireland Youth Forum; and Brian Dougherty MBE, CEO, North West Cultural Partnership (NWCP)

The Committee will also be holding informal meetings with senior representatives of the five largest political parties in the Northern Ireland Assembly during the course of its visit.
