Lords European Affairs Committee to hear from former Finnish Prime Minister
Wednesday 12 October 2022
From 12pm on Thursday 13 October the House of Lords European Affairs Committee will hear from the former Prime Minister of Finland 2014-2015, Professor Alexander Stubb.
This is the second evidence session of its new inquiry examining the overarching state of the post-Brexit UK-EU relationship and how it might be improved in the future.
In this session the Committee will examine the former Prime Minister’s take on the overall UK-EU political, diplomatic and institutional relationship; and the UK-EU relationship on foreign policy and security.
Topics the Committee is likely to cover in this session include:
- The overall state of the current relationship between the UK and the EU, and the primary factors affecting this.
- How leaving the EU has impacted on the UK’s bilateral relationships with EU Member States.
- The new European Political Community, including how this forum might develop and its possible implications for the UK-EU relationship.
- Post-Brexit foreign, defence and security policy coordination between the UK, the EU and EU Member States, including the experience of this in the context of the response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- How the UK should approach the deepening relationship between NATO and the EU, as a non-EU member of NATO
The evidence session will take place at midday on Thursday 13 October in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster and can be viewed live on Parliament TV.
