What is the future of technology in the creative industries? Lords Committee to ask Google and BFI

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will tomorrow take evidence from Google, the British Film Institute and the games and interactive entertainment industry as it continues to explore how technology will change and challenge the creative industries.

Giving evidence to the Committee in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords will be:

11:15am

  • Dr Jo Twist OBE, Chief Executive Officer, Ukie
  • Catherine Allen, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Limina Immersive
  • Verity McIntosh, Senior Lecturer in Extended and Virtual Realities, University of the West of England

12:15pm

  • Chance Coughenour, Head of Preservation, Google Arts & Culture
  • Rishi Coupland, Head of Research and Insight, British Film Institute
  • Professor Melissa Terras, Professor of Digital Cultural Heritage, University of Edinburgh

In the first session the Committee will explore the development of extended and immersive reality technologies in the creative industries; the risks and benefits that will be associated with these technologies over the next 5-10 years; and the how the UK’s creative industries can be a leading player the development of extended reality.

The second session will include questions on the increasing importance of digitisation and data to the creative industries. The Committee will explore whether UK creative industries have the support to address the opportunities and challenges around the shift to digitisation, and what the UK can learn from other countries.
