Update on proceedings of the House of Commons and House of Lords following the death of Her late Majesty The Queen

Following the announcement this evening of the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II the House of Commons and the House of Lords extend their sympathies to all members of the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth Realms.
Please find below details of what will be happening in each House over the next two days.
Proceedings of the House of Commons
The sitting on Friday 9 September will not start at 9.30am as planned.
Instead, under the authority of the Speaker of the House of Commons, the House will sit at 12 noon for tributes to Her late Majesty. The House is likely to sit until approximately 10pm.
The House will then sit again on Saturday 10 September at 2pm, when a small number of senior Members will take the oath to His Majesty The King. Tributes will then be continued. The House is expected to sit until approximately 10pm.
The last business to be taken on Saturday evening will be consideration of a formal humble address to His Majesty The King expressing the deep sympathy of the House on the death of Her late Majesty The Queen.
All Members will have an opportunity to take the oath when the House returns, although this is not a formal requirement.
Proceedings of the House of Lords
The Lords will meet on Friday 9 September at 12 noon. Members will be able to offer their tributes to Her late Majesty. A further sitting of the House, at which
Members will have another opportunity to offer their tributes, will take place on Saturday 10 September at 2pm. At the end of Saturday’s sitting the House will agree an Address of condolence to His Majesty the King.
The first tributes on 9 September will be offered by key office-holders, and there will be opportunities for backbench Members to contribute later. There may be short adjournments during the sittings, and the House is expected to arise at around 10pm on both days.
There will be no Speakers’ Lists in the Lords for the sittings on 9 and 10 September.
The timings of when Members will be able to take the oath or make the solemn affirmation will be announced shortly.
All other parliamentary business will be postponed, including scheduled meetings of Select Committees and All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), until after 21 September 2022.
Both Houses are not expected to sit on Sunday 11 September 2022.
