Lords committee hears from National Infrastructure Commission

Friday 8 December 2023

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will hear from the Chair and Chief Executive of the National Infrastructure Commission, as it concludes its inquiry into UK regulators.

The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 12 December and can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Sir John Armitt, Chair, National Infrastructure Commission
  • James Heath, Chief Executive, National Infrastructure Commission

Possible questions include:

  • what is the National Infrastructure Commission’s role in overseeing
the work of the UK’s regulators?
  • could the National Infrastructure Commission play a greater role in overseeing regulatory activities that relate to delivering infrastructure?
  • to what extent are regulators being expected to address political or distributional decisions, particularly in relation to the balance between affordability and investment?
  • How independent are the UK’s major regulators? Are they capable of resisting political pressures and speaking truth to power where necessary?
