Lords Communications Committee to question BBC Director General Tim Davie and acting Chair Dame Elan Closs Stephens DBE on BBC leadership
Thursday 13 July 2023
The House of Lords Communications Committee will next week take evidence from the BBC’s Director General, acting Chair and Director of Policy in a one-off evidence session on the leadership of the BBC.
The Committee will hear from Director General Tim Davie CBE, acting Chair Dame Elan Closs Stephens and Director of Policy Clare Sumner CBE from 2:30pm on Tuesday 18 July in the House of Lords.
The Committee will quiz the witnesses on a range of issues including:
- in light of recent events, what concerns have been raised about the adequacy of the BBC’s governance arrangements and how it is addressing these;
- the work of the Chair and board, including how this ensures the BBC’s independence from Government;
- the BBC’s progress in producing a long-term vision to tackle strategic challenges, alongside proposals for alternative funding model, which the Committee had previously called for; and
- how the BBC’s commitment to impartiality needs to keep pace with changing societal expectations, and how it is addressing concerns that it needs to do more to serve all sectors of UK society, including low-income households.
The evidence session will be available to watch live and on demand at www.parliamentlive.tv
