Supreme Court President and Deputy President to give evidence

Monday 3 July 2023

The House of Lords Constitution Committee will tomorrow be holding its annual evidence session with the President and Deputy President of the Supreme court.

Giving evidence will be:

  • The Rt Hon the Lord Reed of Allermuir, President of the Supreme Court
  • The Rt Hon Lord Hodge, Deputy President of the Supreme Court

Questions that may arise include:

  • What international activities has the Court undertaken to further its reputation as an international centre of legal excellence and a global champion of the rule of law?
  • What efforts have been made in the last year to make progress on the Court’s Judicial Diversity and Inclusion Strategy?
  • How have relations between the Court and the Government been over the past year?
  • Are the mechanisms in place at the Supreme Court adequate to encourage judges who have experienced bullying, harassment or discrimination to report their experience?
  • What changes and improvements to the Supreme Court have been identified by the Change Programme and what do you hope to achieve through this Programme over the next year?
  • What consideration have you given to the role that artificial intelligence might play in the Supreme Court in the future?

The session will take place on Tuesday 4 July at 10.15am and can be followed on Parliament TV.
