Lords Committee to examine international perspectives on health integration

The evidence sessions will explore attempts to better integrate healthcare services and reasons for success or failure in this area. The sessions will also look at the extent to which England can learn from health service reform elsewhere in the world.

The first evidence session will start at 3.05pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

The witnesses giving evidence to the committee will be:

• Professor David Peiris, Acting Chief Scientist & Director, Global Primary Health Care Program (Better Care);
• Dr Dheepa Rajan, Health System Specialist, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies; and
• Dr Toni Dedeu, Senior Advisor, WHO European Centre for Primary Health Care.

• Brendan Martin, Founder and Managing Director Buurtzorg Britain and Ireland; and
• Dr Niamh Lennox-Chhugani, Chief Executive and Director of Research Scotland Hub, International Foundation for Integrated Care.

Questions may include:

• Have any countries had marked success at integrating their primary and community care services? If so, how did they do this? How was success measured?
• Have integration projects failed to demonstrate impact? Why might this have been
• How well does the NHS perform compared to the health services of other countries? To what extent could further healthcare integration improve this?
• From your experience of international research and practice, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the English approach to integrating primary and community care?
• If you could recommend one thing that the UK Government could do to better integrate the health service in England, what would it be?
