Lords committee to hear evidence on experiences of probation

The House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee will tomorrow consider the experiences of people on probation as it continues its inquiry on community sentences in England and Wales. The committee will hear from three people who have recently served a community order, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Revolving Doors.
Giving evidence will be:
- Pavan Dhaliwal, CEO Revolving Doors
- Caroline, Revolving Doors
- Ayesha, Revolving Doors
- DeQeon, Revolving Doors
Possible questions include:
- Before you were sentenced, did the Probation Service prepare a written pre-sentence report for you? Were you able to contribute to it?
- When serving your community order, how was your relationship with your probation officer? What is the most important thing they have done for you?
- What do you think makes a good probation officer?
- Did your probation officer refer you to other organisations? If so, how was your relationship with them?
- Has your sentence helped you, in general? Has it made it easier for you to avoid committing crimes in the future? What aspect of the sentence helped you most?
- To what extent did your sentence feel like a punishment?
