Ofqual Chief Regulator and Chair give evidence to Lords inquiry into the secondary education system
Wednesday 28 June
Ofqual Chief Regulator, Dr Jo Saxton, and Chair, Sir Ian Bauckham, will give evidence to the House of Lords Education for 11 - 16 Year Olds Committee on Thursday 29 June, as it continues to look at the secondary school system in England.
The session begins at 12pm and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 3.
The session will cover a range of topics including:
- Ofqual’s role in shaping the future of assessment and qualifications for 11–16 year olds
- Strengths and weaknesses of non-exam assessments
- The effect that lowering the stakes of assessment at 16 would have on pupils and/or schools
- Implications of moving towards on-screen assessments at GCSE
- Opportunities, risks and challenges of AI in relation to qualifications and assessment.
At 11am, the committee will take evidence about qualifications and assessment methods that could be used alongside, or instead of, GCSEs.
Giving evidence will be:

- Matthew Glanville, Director of Assessment, The International Baccalaureate
- Alistair McConville, Deputy Head, King Alfred School and Co-Founder, Rethinking Assessment.
