Police to give evidence on post-Brexit UK-EU security cooperation

The committee will question law enforcement professionals, focusing on policing and law enforcement perspectives of the cooperation arrangements introduced by the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).  

Giving evidence will be: 

• DCC Peter Ayling, International Crime Coordination Centre Lead, National Police Chiefs Council  
• Steve Rodhouse, Director General (Operations), National Crime Agency 

Possible areas of questioning in this session include: 

• Loss of access to the Schengen Information System 
• How participation in the so-called Prüm mechanism governing the exchange of DNA, fingerprint and vehicle registration information is operating in practice 
• Access to Passenger Name Record (PNR) data 
• Effectiveness of the new extradition arrangements replacing the European Arrest Warrant 
• The impact of the “nationality exception” under which 10 EU Member States cease to extradite their own nationals to the UK 
• Consequences for UK law enforcement if it could no longer draw on the arrangements set out in Part Three of the TCA (if, for example, the UK denounces the European Convention on Human Rights).
