Lords Committee to question Home Office Minister on concerns regarding recent immigration legislation

On Thursday 11 May 2023, the cross-party House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee will question Lord Murray of Blidworth, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Migration and Borders, Home Office, regarding concerns over the proposed Electronic Travel Authorisation system, as set out in a recent Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules and the connected Immigration (Electronic Travel Authorisations) (Consequential Amendment) Regulations 2023.
The Committee drew these two instruments to the special attention of the House of Lords in its 35th Report.
The session will start at 10.00am and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.
Questions will address:
- the Home Office’s failure to publish the Impact Assessment relating to these instruments;
- the operation of two specific elements of the Electronic Travel Authorisations policy; namely, the Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland border and fingerprint biometrics; and
- the process for producing and signing off secondary legislation and Explanatory Memoranda in the Home Office.
