Lords European Affairs Committee holds follow up session on Citizens’ Rights

At 4pm on Tuesday 16 May the House of Lords European Affairs Committee will hold a follow-up evidence session on Citizens’ Rights with representatives of three key organisations that represent EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU.

This is a one-off evidence session and follows the publication of its report in July 2021 which highlighted issues that were still to be resolved regarding both the UK’s EU Settlement Scheme and the systems operated by EU Member States.

At 4pm the Committee will hear from:

  • Monique Hawkins, Interim Co-CEO and Policy and Research Officer, The3million

The evidence session will take place at 4.00pm in Committee Room 4 and can be viewed live on parliamentlive.tv

  • Overall situation regarding citizens’ rights
  • Arrangements for moving from UK pre-settled to settled status
  • Processing applications to residence schemes in the UK and EU Member States
  • The use of digital status
  • Travel between the UK and the EU, for EU citizens with (pre)-settled status and UK citizens with equivalent status in EU Member States
  • The impact of a Home Office database error, which resulted in incorrect status being displayed for an estimated 140,000 applicants to the EU Settlement Scheme for an extended period of time
  • Citizens’ rights support available for EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU
