Retail and manufacturing experts give evidence on Windsor Framework

At 3:00pm, Wednesday 10 May, the House of Lords Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland Committee will continue to take evidence on the impact of the Windsor Framework on retail businesses and on the manufacturing and production of goods in Northern Ireland.

The Committee will hear from:  

3:00pm 

  • Declan Gormley, Managing Director, Brookvent 
  • Andrew Opie, Director of Food and Sustainability, British Retail Consortium. 
  • Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive, Retail Northern Ireland 

The public evidence session will start at 3:00pm and will be available to watch live or on demand on Parliamentlive.TV. or attend in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster. 

Possible question topics include: 

  • The Windsor Framework and the extent to which it resolves the problems that have arisen with the Protocol 
  • The proposed Stormont Brake, and the extent to which this will address the democratic deficit under the Protocol 
  • The impact of the Windsor Framework on larger firms and SMEs 
  • The implications of the Windsor Framework for the manufacturing sector 
  • The Windsor Framework’s provisions in relation to customs procedures and the movement of goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland, including the arrangements for ‘green’ and ‘red’ lanes
  • The new framework for agrifood retail trade into Northern Ireland agreed as part of the Windsor Framework
  • The proposals on VAT and excise, and State aid
  • The impact of the Windsor Framework for regulatory divergence between Northern Ireland and Great Britain and on the island of Ireland.
