Will the Digital Markets Bill provide the right regulation for the digital economy? Lords Committee to ask industry experts

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will next week open its scrutiny of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill with an evidence session with leading experts and commentators.
The session will be the first of a short inquiry looking in detail at the Bill and whether it is likely to meet the Government’s objectives to improve consumer protection, regulate digital markets, and strengthen competition enforcement powers.
The evidence session will start at 1:45pm on Tuesday 23 May. Giving evidence to the Committee will be:
- Mark Scott, Chief Technology Correspondent at Politico
- Corie Wright, Vice President and Global Head of Public Policy at Epic Games, and member of the Coalition for App Fairness
- Dirk Auer, Director of Competition Policy at the International Center for Law & Economics
Areas the Committee will question the witnesses on include:
- The strategic challenges the Bill is seeking to solve.
- The strengths and weaknesses of the proposed regulations.
- How the UK compares to approaches adopted in other jurisdictions including the US and EU.
- How the new regulations will be implemented and whether the Competition and Markets Authority is sufficiently well equipped to deliver on its new role.
