Ipsos to give evidence on voter ID

Tuesday 21 November 2023

Tomorrow the House of Lords Constitution Committee will hear from Ipsos as part of its inquiry into voter ID.

The session will focus on the findings of a survey undertaken by Ipsos earlier this year, on behalf of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

The survey focussed on, among other things, awareness of the need to present voter ID and awareness of the Voter Authority Certificate.

The session will take place on Wednesday 22 November at 10:15am and can be followed on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Gideon Skinner, Head of Politics Research in Public Affairs, Ipsos UK
  • Dr Glenn Gottfried, Research Manager in Public Affairs, Ipsos UK.

Questions the committee is likely to ask include:

  • To what extent has awareness of voter ID improved?
  • How does awareness of the voter ID requirement and the Voter Authority Certificate vary between different demographics?
  • Based on your survey findings, do you think an expanded list of accepted forms of ID would help improve accessibility for voters? Is there an argument for accepting digital forms of ID?
  • Could alternatives to voter ID improve accessibility for voters?

What impact do you anticipate the voter ID requirement having on turnout at the next general election?
