Lords Committee holds follow up session on the Government’s children’s social care strategy
Monday 20 November 2023
On Wednesday 22 November the House of Lords Public Services Committee will hold an evidence session examining the Government’s children’s social care strategy: Stable homes: built on love. The session will act as a follow-up to the Committee’s report A response to the Children’s Social Care Implementation Strategy published earlier this year. It will explore progress made since the Government’s consultation, and seek to identify any barriers to that progress or areas for further intervention.
The session will start at 3.00pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
3.00pm
- Lynn Perry MBE, Chief Executive, Barnardo’s;
- Abigail Gill, Associate Head of Policy and Public Affairs, NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children); and
- Jessica Ford, Policy Lead for children in and leaving care, Action for Children.
Questions for discussion will include:
- What progress has been made since the consultation was published in February? What are the key barriers to further progress in implementation?
- What progress has been made towards delivering the regional care cooperative pathfinder? Are there other ways to address challenges in commissioning?
- How far does the strategy address the wider contextual issues around young people who are in contact with the social care system?
- How well does the strategy serve young disabled people in the care system?
