Tomorrow, Wednesday 8 November, the House of Lords Public Services Committee will hold its second evidence session for its inquiry exploring the transition from education to employment for young disabled people.
The session will consider the barriers experienced by young disabled people moving from education to employment, and how these could be addressed with impactful interventions.
The session will start at 3.00pm and can watched live or on demand at Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
3.00pm
- Dr Stephen Beyer, Senior Research Fellow and Honorary Lead in Learning Disability Employment, National Centre for Mental Health, School of Medicine, Cardiff University;
- Dr Stella Chatzitheochari, Reader, Department of Sociology, University of Warwick; and
- Prof Kim Hoque, co-founder Disability@Work, Vice Dean, People and Culture, Kings Business School.
Questions will include:
- What are the key barriers young disabled people face during the transition from education to employment? How could these be addressed?
- How far do young disabled people have access to the right information support at the right time during when moving from education settings to the workplace?
- Do employers have access to the right support and information they need to recruit and retain young disabled people? How far do government schemes for employers address this need?
- What key changes should the Committee be calling for?
