Modern methods of construction inquiry: committee to hear evidence from leading academics in the field
Monday 13 November 2023
At 10.45am on Tuesday 14 November 2023, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will hear evidence from:
- Dr Suzanne Peters, Research Associate, Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester
- Professor Jonatan Pinkse, Professor of Strategy, Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester.
This session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.
The purpose of this session is to hear the analysis of academics at the Productivity Institute at the University of Manchester who have been studying Category 1 of MMC (modern methods of construction) businesses, as part of their wider research on improving productivity of the UK construction industry.
Members will seek their views on why companies such as Ilke Homes and Urban Splash House collapsed and how government investment would be best spent.
More about this inquiry
To increase housing supply and meet its 300,000 homes a year target, the Government has stated that we need a diversified housing market which embraces innovation, including MMC. However, MMC manufacturers have faced major challenges over the past year and a number of companies have gone into administration or halted production.
This inquiry seeks to understand the barriers to the increased delivery of MMC homes and to whether the Government’s approach to supporting the growth of MMC development is appropriate or effective.
This inquiry has its own webpage. The committee’s work can be followed on its website and via Twitter.
