Inquiry on the future of modern methods of construction to hold its first evidence session

Monday 23 October 2023

On Tuesday 24 October 2023, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will hold its first evidence session for its new inquiry into the future of modern methods of construction (MMC).

This session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.

At 10.45am the committee will hear from:

  • Carl Leaver, Chairman, TopHat
  • Michael Stirrop, Chief Commercial Officer, Vistry Group.

The purpose of this session is to hear the perspectives of two companies which specialise in modern methods of construction and are currently expanding their activity.

More about this inquiry

To increase housing supply and meet its 300,000 homes a year target, the Government has stated that we need a diversified housing market which embraces innovation, including MMC. However, MMC manufacturers have faced major challenges over the past year and a number of companies have gone into administration or halted production.

This inquiry seeks to understand the barriers to the increased delivery of MMC homes and to whether the Government’s approach to supporting the growth of MMC development is appropriate or effective.

This inquiry has its own webpage. The committee’s work can be followed on its website and via X (Twitter).
