Lords committee opens inquiry into UK regulators

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee opens its inquiry into UK regulators by hearing from the National Audit Office and two former Chairs of regulators, Lord Tyrie and Charles Randell CBE.
The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 24 October and can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence at 10.30am will be:
- Gareth Davies, Comptroller and Auditor General, National Audit Office
- Richard Sullivan-Jones, Senior Audit Manager, National Audit Office
Giving evidence at 11.30am will be:
- Lord Andrew Tyrie, Former Chair, Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)
- Charles Randell CBE, Senior Consultant, Slaughter and May
Possible questions include:
- Are the duties and objectives given to regulators sufficiently clear?
- To what extent are regulators being expected to address political and distributional decisions?
- What should independence mean for regulators?
- How effectively do regulators co-operate with one another?
- How should regulators be held accountable for their performance?
The committee is encouraging interested individuals and organisations to submit evidence to the inquiry until Friday 1 December.
