What is needed to drive investment in long-duration energy storage infrastructure? Lords to explore
Monday 16 October 2023
At 10:15 on Tuesday 23 October, the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will continue its inquiry into long-duration energy storage.
The Committee will hear from the National Infrastructure Commission, the Electricity System Operator, Centrica Storage and Geostock.
The session will explore what long-term strategic vision needs to be in place for the private sector to invest in long-duration energy storage infrastructure, whether the Government can remain technology neutral or whether different technologies might require different kinds of support, and what can be done to encourage the owners of long-term storage to take a sufficiently long-term view.
The Committee will hear from:
10:15am
- Nick Winser, Electricity Networks Commissioner, National Infrastructure Commission
- Claire Dykta, Head of Markets, Electricity System Operator
11:15am
- Martin Scargill, Managing Director, Centrica Storage
- Arnaud Réveillère, Head of Green Storage, Net-Zero Solutions, Geostock
The public evidence session will take place from 10:15 am in Committee Room 4 Palace of Westminster on Tuesday 24 October 2023 and can be viewed live on parliamentlive.tv.
Possible question areas include:
- How the grid needs to change to incorporate greater amounts of long-duration energy storage
- What impact the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements might have on long-duration energy storage
- What can be done to encourage the owners of storage to take a longer term view
- The major obstacles and bottlenecks in getting energy storage projects off the ground
