Lords Committee to hear from Defence Minister on procurement, use and regulation of Autonomous Weapons Systems

Wednesday 6 September

At 10am on Thursday 7 September the Lords Artificial Intelligence in Weapons Systems Committee will take evidence from James Cartlidge MP, Minister for Defence Procurement in the Ministry of Defence. He will give evidence on the Government’s policies on procurement, use and regulation of Autonomous Weapons Systems.

The evidence session will be available to watch live or on demand on Parliamentlive.tv or in person in Committee Room 4A, Palace of Westminster. 

Question topics for the Minister include:

  • Confidence levels in the procurement system operated by the Ministry of Defence 
  • How the Ministry of Defence ensures it has access to unbiased, representative training data for AI systems 

The risk of use of AWS by non-state actors and government preparedness for this.
