Minister of State for Prisons, Parole and Probation to be questioned by Lords committee
Monday 18 September 2023
Tomorrow the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee will be hearing evidence from the Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP (Minister of State for Prisons, Parole and Probation), as part of its final evidence session for its inquiry into community sentences. The meeting will explore various aspects of community sentences in England and Wales, such as trends in their use, how they are delivered, and ideas for reforms.
Possible questions include:
- Who, within Government, is making the case for greater availability of treatment for people on community sentences?
- Why were the new pilot problem-solving courts renamed “intensive supervision courts”? How will the pilots be evaluated?
- How will it be ensured that the original “probation ethos” survives and thrives within His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service?
- What are the Government’s priorities for the commissioning of rehabilitative services from private and third-sector organisations going forward?
The session can be followed live on Tuesday 19 October from 10:30am on Parliament TV.
