Lords methane inquiry hears from Environment Agency and farming representatives

The House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee will continue its inquiry into methane by continuing to explore methane emissions from agriculture as well as the role of the Environment Agency in mitigating methane emissions.
The session will take place on Wednesday 24 April from 9.45am. It can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in the Palace of Westminster (committee room 3).
Giving evidence from 9.45am on agriculture emissions will be:
- Tom Bradshaw, President, National Farmers’ Union (NFU)
- Martin Lines, UK CEO, Nature Friendly Farming Network (NFFN)
Questions from the committee will cover the following areas:
- The extent to which farmers and landowners currently use methane mitigation practices and technologies;
- Feasibility of and barriers to implementing methane mitigation technologies and practices;
- Current incentives for reducing methane emissions.
Giving evidence from 10.45am from the Environment Agency will be:
- Kevin Austin, Deputy Director for Fisheries and Nature (and currently covering Deputy Director for Agriculture role), Environment Agency;
- Steve Molyneux, Deputy Director for Waste & Resources Regulation, Environment Agency.
Questions from the committee will cover the following areas:
- The UK methane regulation landscape;
- The effectiveness of the Environment Agency as a methane regulator;
- The Environment Agency’s Methane Action.
