Home Office to give evidence on electronic border management systems
Wednesday 4 December 2024
Tomorrow the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee will be quizzing the Home Office, as part of its follow-up work on Electronic Border Management Systems.
The session comes as the Government continues its rollout of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and follows in the wake of the EU’s decision to delay the introduction of the Entry / Exit System (EES), which was explored in the committee’s previous public evidence session on 15 October.
Giving evidence will be:
- Seema Malhotra MP, Minister for Migration and Citizenship
- Dan Hobbs, Director General, Migration and Borders Group, Home Office
Possible questions include:
- Following the EU’s decision to delay the implementation of the EES, what discussions has the Government had with the EU itself and with Member States (particularly France)?
- What is the Government’s ambition for the future of UK-EU co-operation on Border Management?
- What is the Government’s position on youth mobility?
- What is the Government’s response to concerns that the requirement for transit passengers to hold an ETA will have an adverse economic impact?
- In relation to the Common Travel Area, what assessment has been made of the balance between border security and the potential impact on tourism and other cross-border travel from the Republic of Ireland into Northern Ireland?
- Does Border Force possess the necessary capacity and flexibility to implement change and learn lessons from experience?
The session will take place on Thursday 5 December 2024 at 10:30am and can be followed live on Parliament TV.
