Monday 26 February 2024
On Wednesday 28 February, the House of Lords Public Services Committee will hold an evidence session that will examine the approach taken by other jurisdictions to provide support for young disabled people transitioning from education to employment. The session will seek to identify good practice and how to address any barriers to providing adequate support.
The session will start at 3.00pm and can be watched live or on demand at Parliament TV, or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.
Giving evidence will be:
3.00pm
- Scott Richardson-Read, Policy and Development Worker, Association for Real Change (ARC) Scotland;
- Heather Hall, Chief Executive Officer, The Usual Place; and
- Alex Harrison, Disability Equality Officer, Disability Wales.
Questions will include:
- Please tell us about your work to support disabled people during the transition from education to employment? What outcomes have been achieved from your work and how might your work translate to other concepts or be scaled up?
- What are the barriers you face in delivering your work? How might they be addressed?
- What challenges are there getting employers involved in your work? How can employers be effectively encouraged and supported to employ or offer placements to young disabled people?
- Are there issues or challenges young disabled people may be facing which policymakers might not be considering?
- What recommendations should the Committee be making to central government?
