Lords committee focuses on methane emissions monitoring

The House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee will continue its inquiry into methane by focusing on domestic and international monitoring and measurement of methane emissions on Wednesday 20 March.


The session will take place from 10am. It can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in the Palace of Westminster (committee room 3).

Giving evidence will be:

  • Professor Grant Allen, University of Manchester;
  • Professor Matt Rigby, University of Bristol;
  • Dan Wicks, GHGSat;
  • Glen Thistlethwaite, Technical Director, Air Pollutant and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories, Tools and Projections, at Ricardo.

Questions from the committee will cover the following areas:

  • current methane accounting and monitoring in the UK;
  • fugitive emissions and leakage;
  • novel measurement technologies and methods.

The Committee’s call for evidence for the inquiry is open until 15 April 2024. Details about how to submit evidence are available on the Committee’s website.
